The Pin Bhaba Pass trek combines all you can wish for in a trekking journey. It is a challenging walk through the most amazing landscape and the views you witness all along the trek is truly captivating. The thunderous walk lets you experience a dramatic change in landscape and cultures.

The walk begins through the dense forests of Oak and Silver birch before thinning out on a vast brown desert of the Pin Valley. As you cross the Pin Bhaba Pass, the vast daring stone desert of the Pin Valley unfolds before you. The highest point of the journey presents you with the inescapable views of the Bhaba and Pin Valley, and the difference in the landscapes you witness is admirable. Through a number of incredible destinations for 8 long days, you will get to amaze at some really captivating views of the astounding Spiti Valley and also few villages like Mudh and Kaza.


Day 1: Shimla (2,275 meters / 7,465 feet) to Kafnu (2,401 meters / 7,878 feet)

Shimla is richly popular among the travelers. An ideal gateway in the Himachal, Shimla has a very beautiful setting and offers some really breathtaking scenes. The well-connected road and railway network from nearly all parts of the country, Shimla is the perfect place to begin the journey with. The beautiful city of Shimla has a number of hotspots waiting to be explored and enjoyed. As you reach Shimla, your journey towards Kafnu Village starts from here.

The 205 kms drive to Kafnu Village takes not more than 7 hours in total. The quaint village in the Bhaba Valley, Kafnu has a rich and wide variety of flora. Along the way to Kafnu, the Rampur Village is a notable spot as the majestic views of the Kinnaur Range from here is really incredible.

Day 2: Kafnu (2,401 meters / 7,878 feet) to Mulling ((3,242 meters / 10,637 feet)

Mulling is located at 10,637 feet and it takes around 8 hours from Kafnu Village. The walk is quite challenging today and the 11.3 km journey needs to start at the earliest. 200 m into the journey, the Bhaba Hydro Project comes into sight, the first underground dam of the country. The trail from here makes you cross the Bhaba River and continue forward on a narrow route.

A few more kilometers into the journey, the dense forests of Oak, Silver Birch, and Pine trees comes into sight. The picturesque beauty of the number of trees in one single frame makes it a really mesmerizing sight. Follow the trail ahead to reach Jhandi Top before walking through Champoria. Another one kilometer from Jhandi Top leads you to Mulling where you will be camping the night.

Day 3: Mulling ((3,242 meters / 10,637 feet) to Karah (3,744 meters / 12,283 feet)

Located at 11,653 feet above sea level, the walk to Karah will not take more than 5 hours and you will experience a truly enjoyable walk today. The journey starts on a rocky terrain before reaching a cascading waterfall and a vast meadow. The walk ahead leads you to a point where you will get to have a memorable experience. The subterranean river phenomenon lets you enjoy the sound of the invisible flowing river. Another few kilometers into the trek leads you to an ecstatic flower bed meadow.

From this meadow, Karah is only 1.2 km away and the setting is really beautiful. The lake in the close vicinity offers some exhilarating reflections of the surroundings. Enjoy the night in Karah.

Day 4: Karah (3,744 meters / 12,283 feet) to Phutsirang (4,107 meters / 13,474 feet)

The moderate and steep ascend today for about 4 hours leads you to 13,474 feet, Phustirang. Though the journey today is not more than 5 kms, but you will encounter quite a steep ascend along the way. The stone and loose mud terrain is a tricky walk and cautious approach is advised.

Follow the trail to reach a stream coming out of the Bhaba River which you will have to cross before reaching the campsite. A number of mountain streams all along the way make the short journey quite strenuous. As you reach Phustirang, prepare to spend the night here.

Day 5: Acclimatization Day

The long journey and high altitude demands for a rest and acclimatization day. The campsite in Phustirang presents you with a picturesque fairy tale beauty. The vast greenery looks mesmerizing.

While you stay at Phustirang, the amazing glimpses of the three mountain passes will not fail to amuse you. The Nimish Khango, Tari Khango, and the Pin Bhaba Pass are the captivating mountain passes you get to stare at. Spend a quaint night in the solitude grassland of Phustirang.

Day 6: Phutsirang (4,107 meters / 13,474 feet) to Mangruse (4,168 meters / 13,674 feet via Pin Bhaba Pass (4,909 meters / 16,105 feet)

The most exciting and taxing journey of the whole trek constitutes of a hike to 16,105 feet and then descend to 13,674 feet. The 11km journey takes about 9 hours to cover and delivers you with the most incredible sight. The walk up to the pass on the difficult trail leads you to the highest point and presents you with the great geographical contradictions of nature. The shift in the landscape from the grasslands of Bhaba Valley to the vast brown desert of Pin Valley is really a sight to savor. Enjoy the astounding views from the saddle point before starting the descend towards Mangruse.

Walk on the descending trail for about 2 km to reach the Pin River. Cross the river and walk for further 5 km to reach the campsite of Mangruse. Located beautifully on the banks of the Pin River, the campsite is a really enjoyable one to spend the night.

Day 7: Trek to Mudh, drive to Kaza

The last and final day of the trek is a long descend to Mudh Village. The 16.29 km trek takes up around 7 hours to reach Mudh. The trail takes you through the Bara Boulder campsite before leading you to a flat terrain.

Follow the trail forward to cross a bridge over the mountain stream to reach a dry flat land. The picturesque beauty of the distant Mudh Village is admirable. You will also get to view the suspension bridge over the Pin River before entering Mudh Village. As you reach Mudh Village, prepare for a drive to Kaza Village. Spend the night in Kaza.

Day 8: Manali (Departure)

The final day of the journey takes you to Manali by an enjoyable drive of 201 kms. Sink in the beauty of the mountain roads and the vivid landscapes as you reach Manali after a long drive.

Manali is a beautiful location with a highly compelling artistic setting. A lot of people often come to Manali to enjoy a quaint holiday. While you stay in Manali you can choose to explore the streets and marketplaces of the region. Final night stay in Manali.
