The trail constitutes all the adventures combined in a single package. The path runs through many rock faces and dark folds in the mountains. The wooden hanging bridges and the icy slopes deliver even more thrill. Adventure and beauty at it are very best, the trail also takes you through vast lush green meadows and Rhododendron forests. The 8 days itinerary takes you through all ranging from mountains to glaciers to beautiful valleys.


Day 1: Arrival at Dhaula (1, 676 meters / 5, 500 feet) from Dehradun

Your journey to the exciting ‘Rupin Pass’ starts with your arrival in Dhaula. The base of the Rupin Pass trek, Dhaula is located at an elevation of 5,500 feet. To reach Dhaula you will have to first reach the Dehradun Railway station. From Dehradun, it is an around 10 hours’ drive to Dhaula. A sleepy hamlet of dozen homes, Dhaula is also the last road ahead of Uttarakhand. Enjoy the time in Dhaula and spend the night here.

Day 2: Dhaula (1, 676 meters / 5, 500 feet) Sewa (1, 920 meters / 6, 300 feet)

The 6 hours trek today takes you to the village of Sewa located at an elevation of 6,000 feet. The trail runs through small climbs all along the way and after a climb of around 200 meters, you get your first view of the Rupin flowing 500 feet below as it spreads out in a wide river bed. The trail from here runs through apple and apricot trees as you take a curve and witness the shifting of scenery.

A high cliff standing on top of the Rupin and giving you marvelous views to enjoy. Follow the trail to cross a small eatery and enter the Sewa Gaon. Explore the famous temple in the village and stay the night here.

Day 3: Sewa (1, 920 meters / 6, 300 feet) Jiskun (2, 347 meters / 7, 700 feet)

Today you will be traveling to Jiskun at an elevation of 7,700 feet. The trail surprises you with a mixture of potato and barley fields before dipping into a dense jungle. Enjoy the thrilling walk in the jungle before getting the glimpse of the Rupin river with a sudden change in the landscape.

The trail runs through the Rupin river and continues on an easy path as you cross the village of Doodra and Kwar before finally stepping on a steep climb to Jiskun. Witness the change of scenery yet again as you reach Jiskun, stay the night here.

Day 4: Jiskun (2, 347 meters / 7, 700 feet) to Udaknal (3, 078 meters / 10, 100 feet)

Udaknal is a campsite located at an elevation of 10,100 ft and takes up around 6 hours to complete this 8km trek from Jiskun. The trail varies in difficulty level as it starts with a difficult steep climb until you cross the last village of the ‘Rupin Pass trek’. The highest and the last village, Jhaka literally hangs on a mountain and the trail runs through dark folds in the mountain. From Jhaka follow the trail into the beautiful Fir forest and enjoy the sudden change in the scene again. Follow the adventurous and thrilling trail through many exciting stops till you reach udaknal. Stay overnight in Udaknal.

Day 5: Udaknal (3, 078 meters / 10, 100 feet) to Dhanderas thatch (3, 566 meters / 11, 700 feet)

Located at 11,700 ft the trail runs on an easy gradual ascend for around 6 hours all the way up to your destination today, the Dhanderas thatch or the lower waterfall camp. With the change in scenes today you will be walking along the Rupin river to a snow-clad compelling Dhanderas thatch. The views from the camp are bewildering and so appealing that all your appreciations will run out of words. Stay the night here.

Day 6: Acclimatization Day in Dhanderas Thatch

Today you will spend exploring the extensively beautiful region around the Dhanderas thatch. The rise in altitude requires good acclimatization and the place is ideal for experiencing one. Spend the day exploring the area and stay the night here.

Day 7: Dhanderas Thatch (3, 566 meters / 11, 700 feet) to Upper waterfall camp (3, 992 meters / 13, 100 feet)

The trail today to 13,100 feet takes as low as 3 hours to complete but it is the most exciting day of the whole walk. A good cautious approach is highly advised as the easy trail gets really tricky at times owing to the snow patches.
The journey runs through the self-made trail on the snow patch and gets really tiring as you move forward. Follow the trail as you cross the Rupin over a bridge and then walk on a steep slope all the way up to the base of the Upper waterfall camp. Enjoy the feeling of being at top of a waterfall and sink in the incredible views of the surrounding. Camp overnight here.

Day 8: Upper waterfall camp (3, 992 meters / 13, 100 feet) to Rupin Pass (4, 687 meters / 15, 380 feet) via Rati Pheri and to Ronti Gad (3, 992 meters / 13, 100 feet)

The 10-11 hours journey today to Rupin Pass and back to Ronti Gad via Rati Pheri is the most difficult journey of the whole trek. The views from the top of the Pass are incomparable with anything else. Hundreds of prayer flags in the windy atmosphere. Enjoy the most amazing time at top of the pass before sliding down on your bottom. The trail becomes easy again as you descend towards Ronti Gad where you will be staying the night.

Day 9: Ronti Gad to Sangla

Today you will be concluding the journey as you descend down to an elevation of 8,600 ft from 13,100 ft in a total of 6 hours. The continuous descent takes a great toll on your knees and toes but the ever-changing beautiful scenery compensates well. The day is needed to be started early as it follows a rapid descent all the way from the top of the pass.

The snow patches bids adieu as you welcome the green meadows and forests and civilization as you walk further. The trail runs through houses and farmlands before crossing the Baspa village and finally leading you to Sangla. Spend the night in Sangla and prepare for the final departure the next day.

Day 10: Departure (Sangla to Shimla)

The final day of this expedition, post Breakfast we will start our Journey to Shimla which takes about 6 – 7 hours of drive from Sangla.
