While Nandavan, the base of the Bhagirathi Peaks offers exhilarating views of the Shivlinga Peak, the journey from Garhwal to the Bhagirathi Valley is equally commanding. The 14 days trail takes you through the most challenging part of the journey, crossing the Kalindikhal Pass or traversing through the Sweta Glacier. The exciting trail begins at Rishikesh and ends at Badrinath.

Day 1 – Rishikesh.
The hugely thrilling journey to the Kalindikhal Pass begins with your arrival at Rishikesh. The Rishikesh Town is a hugely popular spot in the Uttarakhand State and lies just after the religious city of Haridwar. The 227 km distance from the capital of the country, Delhi is started early in the morning so that you reach Rishikesh by dusk. Rishikesh offers the best of adventure sporting options in the country and a lot of adventure seekers comes to Rishikesh to experience this. Ranging from White Water Rafting to Bungee Jumping, there are many options to choose for and it satisfies the craving for thrill very well. As you reach Rishikesh you can also choose to explore this beautiful region and the small temples here. Spend overnight in Rishikesh.
Day 2 – Rishikesh to Uttarkashi.
The beautiful Uttarkashi Town is 179 km drive away from Rishikesh and takes up around 8 hours to reach the elevation of 1150 m. The day starts early out of Rishikesh and runs through the Ganga River Valley followed by the Bhagirathi River valley. 8 hours into the journey you reach Uttarkashi with enough time left for exploration.
The Uttarkashi Town is set up along the banks of the Bhagirathi River and very rich in religious practices. While you are in Uttarkashi you can spend your time strolling through the streets and visiting the heritage temples and ashrams. Uttarkashi is considered as the gateway to numerous Gangotri expeditions and an ideal place to begin the journey with.
Day 3 – Uttarkashi to Gangotri.
The famous and beautiful Gangotri Town is located at a distance of 95 km from Uttarkashi and takes about 5 hours on road. The elevation of the place is 3048 m. The journey begins through the switch-roads of the famous Harshil, followed by Bhairon Ghati. Few more hours into the journey the trail passes through the Bhairab Ganga River and presents captivating views of the deep gorge below. Gangotri has lots of options to explore. The Gangotri Temple is a notable tourist attraction of the town and the setting of Gangotri Town amidst the greenery of Pine and Cedar Trees looks really fascinating. The small temples, ashrams, and dharamshalas can also be visited while you are in Gangotri. Spend an enjoyable night here.
Day 4 – Gangotri to Bhojwasa.
Today the walking journey begins from Gangotri and every day starting from today you will be encountering thrill in the best possible way. The trek journey begins with your destination Bhojwasa which is located at a distance of 14 km from Gangotri. The walk on this captivating trail takes not more than 5 hours to complete this journey. The trail out of Gangotri runs along the gushing Bhagirathi River, and the intensity of the mountain river keeps your spirits high. The unmatched Himalayan Vista can also be witnessed all along the trail and the beauty of the surrounding snow-capped peaks is a delight for the eyes. As you finish your walk to reach Bhojwasa, prepare to spend the night here.
Day 5 – Bhojwasa to Nandanvan.
Nandanvan is also the base of the fascinating Bhagirathi Group of Peaks. The outstanding trail today starts out of Bhojwasa and runs along the incredible sights of the distant peaks. The vivid landscapes, clear skies with the backdrop of the snow-capped peaks is highly captivating and the walk runs for long 5 hours. The trail takes you through the famed Gangotri Glacier, a beauty in itself. The Gangotri Glacier has lots of religious and traditional importance in the country as it is the source of the world famous Ganga River. As you reach Nandanvan, the compelling views of the Sudarshan Peak, the grandeur of the Mt. Shivling, and the majestic Bhagirathi Group of Peaks will leave you in complete awe. Spend the night in Nandanvan.
Day 6 – Nandanvan to Vasuki Tal
The Vasuki Tal Lake is one of the most beautiful destinations in the whole journey. The steady uphill trek lasts for 5 hours and presents you with some really incredible sights. Through the untouched beauty of nature, you reach the Vasuki Tal Lake and the camping ground lies just adjacent to the lake. The admirable views of the Vasuki Parbat and Mt. Satopnath are a sight to savor as the Vasuki Tal is at the base of these mighty mountains. Enjoy the night by the lake at Vasuki Tal.
Day 7 – Vasuki Tal to Khara Pathar.
The Khara Patthar or the Suarlya Bamak offers some raw magnificence of nature at its very best. The day needs to be started early and the trail runs along some supreme picturesque beauty of mother earth. As you reach Khara Patthar, prepare to spend the night in the camping ground.
Day 8: Khara Patthar to Kalindikhal Base.
The primary destination of the journey is approaching as you travel through the enticing terrain to reach the Kalindikhal Base Camp. The base camp is located at a distance of 10 km from the prior location and is also known as the Sweta Glacier. The Sweta Glacier is located at an elevation of 5500 m and is a really exciting place to be in. As you reach the Kalindikhal Base Camp, prepare to spend the night here.
Day 9: Kalindikhal Base to Raja Parav via Kalindikhal Pass.
The journey today takes you to the most exciting and the most thrilling destination, the Kalindikhal Pass. Located at an astounding height of 5947 m, the Kalindikhal Pass offers some of the most bewildering views of the surrounding Himalayas.
It is a long journey of 12 km from the base camp to the top of the pass. As you get to the top of the pass, you will be enthralled to amaze at the outstanding views of the surroundings. After enjoying a thrilling time at the top of the pass, start your descent towards Raja Parav which will be the camping spot for the night.
Day 10: Raja Parav to Arwatal.
The primary destination has been covered and starting today, the further journey will be towards the next best place, Badrinath through a number of interesting stops on the way. The next stop en route to Badrinath is Arwatal, which is located at an elevation of 3910 meters and the distance to be covered is 13 km. As you get to the beautiful and serene Arwatal, you can enjoy the overnight stay here.
Day 11: Arwatal to Ghastoli
The journey further ahead from Arwatal leads you to the next destination in the route, Ghastoli. The captivating and admiring Ghastoli sits at 3,796 m and is around 16 km away from Arwatal. The night stay here will be filled with joy and excitement of the amazing trek you will be covering in the following day.
Day 12: Ghastoli to Badrinath via Mana Village
The journey today comprises of a walk of about 7 hours to the beautiful Mana Village followed by a drive of around 2 km to the enticing Badrinath Town. The Mana Village is the very last village before the border and will be your first stop on the long journey. As you reach Mana Village after a long walk, start your forward journey to Badrinath Town. The Badrinath Town is situated on the banks of the Alakananda River and the bewildering views of the Nar and Narayana Peaks is a treat to the eyes. The scenic beauty of the twin peaks is complemented with compelling views of the distant Neelkanth Peak. As you reach Badrinath, you can have a really amazing time exploring the corners of the town. The Badrinath Temple is one of the primary attractions of the region and is a must visit. The rich religious setting of the town, the Badrinath Temple, and the picturesque beauty of the Neelkanth Peak in between the twin peaks of Nar and Narayana is a savoring delight. Enjoy your night at 3,130 meters, Badrinath Town before you start your journey towards the completion the next day.
Day 13: Badrinath to Joshimath
The morning in Badrinath will be filled with the echoes of the temple bells and the religious mantras. Start your day by paying a visit to the Badrinath Temple and cleanse your soul from within. The journey from Badrinath today will be covered in a drive back to Joshimath. Joshimath is located at a distance of 44 km from Badrinath. Start the journey after bidding the final adieu to this enthralling and cherishing location. As you reach Joshimath through the drive on the mountain roads, prepare to spend the night here.
Day 14: Joshimath to Rishikesh
The exciting and thrilling journey through the magnificence of nature has finally come to an end as you drive back today to Rishikesh. The final 257 km of the journey will remind you of the brilliant journey you have just experienced.
