The ‘Panchachuli Base Camp Trek’ lies in the Uttarakhand region of India and the journey takes you up to an elevation of 13,975 feet via an itinerary of 9 days covering a total of 61 km journey. The Panchachuli Glacier is located in Darma Valley in the laps of the Kumaon Himalayan range near the Nepal and Tibet border. The trail runs along the Dhauliganga River and presents you with compelling views of Panchachuli Peak and along the walk, you will get to witness many small streams, astounding scenery, alpine meadows, and snow-capped mountains. Enjoy the exciting journey through the enthralling beauty of nature as the trail passes through many small villages as well.

Day 1: Kathgodam to Dharchula (290 KMs).
Kathgodam is the first destination you will be arriving from your hometown, well-connected railway routes make it an easy journey to the beautiful town of Kathgodam. As you reach Kathgodam, you set out on a journey to Dharchula. The ride to Dharchula will take up almost the whole day and the road passes through many appealing destinations like Almora, Bhimtal, Dhaulchina, Sera-Gat, Ashkot, Thal, Chaukhori all in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Along the way, you will also witness incredible views of the lofty Himalayas, rural villages, and dense forests. As you reach the Dharchula Village, you will be amazed at the mesmerizing sight of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. Stay the night in Dharchula.
Day 2: Dharchula to Urthing via Dar
From Dharchula you will be setting out on an early ride to the last motorable road leading to Dar. The journey to Dar takes about 3 hours on a windy road and along the way, you will bypass small tribal settlements New Sobla and Tawaghat. From Dar, you will begin with your walking journey towards Urthing, and the walk will take around 4 hours to complete. The walk runs on a narrow trail on a cliff edge with the gushing Dhauli-Ganga River flowing below you. Follow the trail to reach the Bongling Village before finally reaching the Urthing Campsite. Enjoy a quaint night in Urthing.
Day 3: Urthing to Naagling
The most part of the trail will run along the Dhauli-Ganga River and the destination today is Naagling. As you head out of Urthing, follow the trail comprising of small climbs and descends through the hillsides of lush green pasture land. The trail mostly runs on the high altitude lush green meadows of the inner Himalayan ranges, and the walk on these velvety green meadows makes the journey even more exciting. The trail finally takes you across a suspension bridge over the Dhauli-Ganga River leading you to the Naagling campsite. Spend a quaint night in Naagling campsite, located alongside the river.
Day 4: Naagling to Son
Son is a Darma Valley settlement devoid of habitation and population. The first 3 KMs out of Naagling, you will be walking on a rocky terrain on the hillsides to reach the high Oak and Birch tree forest. Walk your way through the coniferous forests to reach the tabletop meadow of Naagling. You cannot stop ogling at the bewildering views of the surrounding peaks from this meadow. The majestic Himalayas in the surroundings and the distant glaciers makes the view even more enthralling. Start out of the meadow for another 3 KMs through the vegetation lands of the tribals to reach Son. Spend overnight in Son and savor the picturesque beauty of the surrounding region
Day 5: Son to Panchachuli Base Camp (4, 260 meters / 13, 976 feet)
Today you will be traveling on the most exciting trail of the journey. The Panchachuli Base Camp is a highly sought after location in Uttarakhand and the views from the top of the base camp justify well to the stature given to the camp. The walk starts on a narrow trail traversing through the vast lush beauties of the Dantu Bugyals. Follow the forest cover to reach the Panchachuli Glacier and from there a steep descend to the Panchachuli Base Camp. The trail to the base camp is really exciting and you will be able to witness the grandeur of the Dantu Bugyals on one side, while the Birch and Conifer forest lies on the other side. The path to the Panchachuli Base Camp is on a narrow trail and comprises both descends and ascends and along the way you will be amazed to witness the wildflowers and fruits of the region. As you walk your way up to the Panchachuli Base Camp, the incredible sights you will witness is incomparable. The surrounding peaks tower over the huge stretches of the glacier and the tall Oak and Birch trees complement the sight even more. Enjoy the vastness of the lush meadow and sink in the bewildering views of the Panchachuli Peak in the backdrop. Spend a mesmerizing evening in the lap of the Panchachuli Peak, stay the night in the Panchachuli Base Camp.
Day 6: Panchachuli Base Camp to Naagling
After you have witnessed the enthralling views from above the Base Camp, today onward your journey will be towards the finish line of the trek. Today you will travel back to Naagling with no intermediate stop at Son. As the descending trail is fairly easy to cover, the night stay in Son is not required and you will be heading straight to Naagling. Enjoy the walk back on an incredible trail and savor the beauty of the vivid landscapes along the way. As you reach Naagling, the night stay will be alongside the gushing Dhauli-Ganga River.
Day 7: Naagling to Urthing
The 12 KMs journey back to Urthing puts an end to the walking journey. The final day of the trek is long but the easy path on a descending trail with incredible views in the backdrop compensates well for the tiring walk. Enjoy the final walk back to Urthing and prepare to stay the night in Urthing.
Day 8: Urthing to Dharchula.
The trail back to Dharchula is on the same track you followed at the beginning. The first part of the journey is a walk to Dar on the trail running alongside the Dhauli-Ganga River through Bongling Village. After walking for about 4 hours you will reach Dar and from there head out for the ride to Dharchula. The total day will take around 7 hours of traveling and as you reach Dharchula, spend a quaint final night away from the hustles and bustles of city life.
Day 9: Dharchula to Kathgodam
The journey to Kathgodam means the fantastic trekking journey has finally concluded and you are on your way back home. Kathgodam connects nearly all parts of the country via the rail network. From Dharchula the whole day’s drive will lead you to Kathgodam. Spend your day exploring the region and indulging in interactions with the locals. Have a deeper insight into the rural culture and lifestyle of the region. Enjoy the final night in Kathgodam.
Day 10: Departure
This is the last day of the expedition. You can check out by 12Pm and depart towards your hometown until we meet in our next expedition.
