The super amazing trek journey ‘Parang La Trek’ is one of the most sought-after treks in the Spiti Valley. An adventure trail leading you to a summit at 18,300 feet, serene lakes, picturesque beauty of the surrounding peaks, and captivating views of the widespread meadows, the Parang La Trek offers the most amazing journey in the best possible way.

The challenging and thrilling route was previously a trading route followed by the traders of the Spiti Valley, Tibet, and Ladakh. The enticing journey to the Parang La starts from one of the highest villages of the world, Kibber and traverses through some of the most incredible spots.

The journey also takes you through the mesmerizing Tso Moriri Lake at an astounding elevation of 4,500 meters, in the Rhupsu area of the beautiful Ladakh. The magnificence of the lake lies in the beautiful animal species you get to witness here. From Bar-Headed Geese, Brahminy Ducks, Black Necked Crane to Marmots and Kiangs, you get to see all.

The 10-day itinerary on this adventurous trail begins in Spiti Valley, Kibber Village and ends with your arrival in Ladakh. Precisely the Parang La Trek ends at Karzok Village on the western flanks of the Tso Moriri Lake. As exciting as it can get, the raw excellence of nature can be experienced in the finest way in this journey.

Itinerary

Day 1: Leh to Kibber Village

The Kibber Village is located in a kernel of a narrow valley at an elevation of 14,108 feet. Considered as one of the highest inhabited villages of the world, Kibber is a very easy journey from the hugely popular tourist spot, Manali.

The Kibber Village also hosts one of the highest post- office of the world and also the highest polling station in the world. As you reach Kibber after an exciting journey from Manali, you can spend the time exploring this small and beautiful village. You can choose to visit the very old and famous Ki Monastery at a distance of just 1.5 km from the village. The monastery is located on top of a hill and overlooks the turquoise Spiti River flowing below. Enjoy the night stay in Kibber Village.

Day 2: Trek from Kibber to Dumla

The second day of the journey marks the beginning of the exciting walk that you will be following in the days to come. The first stop on the list is the Dumla Village. At a distance of 18 km from Kibber Village, Dumla is yet another fascinating village where you will be enjoying the night stay. The walk begins early and takes around 5 hours from Kibber.

The trek to Dumla is a perfect way of preparing your body and mind for the long days ahead in the journey. Though the trek runs on a fairly easy trail, it is advised not to push hard on the very first day of the journey. Traversing through the gorges alongside the barren landscape of Spiti Valley you will reach Dumla, overnight stay here.

Day 3: Dumla to Thaltak Meadow

The highly interesting Thaltak meadow is located at an elevation of 4875 m, and the distance to be covered today is about 7 km taking around 6 hours. The journey begins with a descent down to the gorge bed, followed by an ascent towards the Thaltak meadow.

Though the elevation of the region is quite high, the temperature at times also gets high due to the reflection of the sun rays. As you reach the Thaltak Meadow after an enthralling walk, picturesque beauty of the surrounding landscape combined with the deep gorges of the Spiti Valley looks really amazing. The Thaltak Meadow is an ideal place to spend the night.

Day 4: Thaltak Meadow to Bonrojen via Jagtha.

The day constitutes a very long and strenuous journey so it is very important to start the day at the earliest. As you wake up in the barren landscape of Spiti, start your journey after breakfast towards Jagtha. At 15,700 feet Jagtha presents you with some really commanding landscapes and the distance is about 8 km from Thaltak Meadow.

As you arrive in Jagtha after a bit of rest the journey resumes towards the final stop at Bonrojen. Bonrojen is at an elevation of 17,000 feet and the fairly long walk from Jagtha on a rocky terrain run for almost 6 km. The 14 km journey was quite tiresome, so a good sleep at the night is highly advised and Bonrojen is where you will be spending the night.

Day 5: Bonrojen to Dak Karzong via Parang La

You are almost halfway through the journey and on the fifth day of the trail, you will be traveling to the primary destination of the trek, the Parang La Pass. Almost a journey of 10 km long, the Parang La Pass sits tall at 18,300 ft. Though the journey takes a total of 6 hours, the last couple of hours leading to the pass runs on a steep climb. The pass is on the trade route between Ladakh and Spiti Valley and offers magnificent views of the surroundings.

As you reach the Parang La pass you will be amazed at the captivating views of the Changthang Valley and the picturesque beauty of the Spiti Valley. At a distance, you get to witness the Parilung Peak and also few glimpses of Ladakh.

Enjoy the brilliant setting of the Parang La Pass and from there start the descent towards the Pare Chu River. The Dak Karzong falls on the way to the river. Stay the night in Dak Karzong.

Day 6: Dak Karzong to Datang Yongma

The Datang Yongma is at an altitude of 4,725 meters and it is a fairly easy walk on a well-marked trail for 6 hours covering a distance of 12 km. The walk begins along the left flank of the Pare Chu River and runs on the same trail all the way to Datang Yongma. Prepare to halt the night in Datang Yongma.

Day 7: Datang Yongma to Chumik Shilde

Though the primary destination has been covered, a huge amount of Himalayan Wilderness awaits as you start your journey today towards Chumik Shilde. Located at a distance of 16 km from Datang Yongma, the journey on the amazing trail runs for almost 6 hours till you reach Chumik Shinde.

The main attraction in today’s journey is the incredible walk that takes you through the Racholemo and Norbu Sumdo, offering the most amazing beauty of nature you can ask for. The strong winds can be tricky, so cautious approach is highly advised. As you reach Chumik Shinde prepare to spend the night here.

Day 8: Chumik Shinde to Tso Moriri

The magnificent Tso Moriri Lake awaits you on the 8th day of the journey. A fairly easy walk for 6 hours covering a distance of not more than 14 km leads you to the stunning blue lake, Tso Moriri.

Tso Moriri Lake is popular among the trekkers owing to the exotic birds you can witness and also some wild animals like ‘Kiangs’ or wild asses. The lake of Tso Moriri breaks into several water channels, making the region, a vast wetland and an ideal place for migratory birds. An enthusiastic bird watcher gets to witness some really exotic species of birds here. Spend the night in the campsite beside the lake.

Day 9: Tso Moriri to Karzog

The very final day of the trekking journey leads you to the Karzog Village at 4,527 meters. As you begin your journey traversing through the Tso Moriri Lake you will be presented with the bewildering views of the Lungser Kangri Peak. The Lungshar Kangri Peak is about 6,666 meters and looks majestic. Cherish the sight before resuming on to the journey.

As you reach the Karzog Village you will get to witness the local culture and lifestyle of the villagers. The ancient monastery in Karzog is a must visit. The trekking journey ends in Karzog so enjoy the night in this beautiful village.

Day 10: Karzog to Leh Ladakh

The last day of the journey takes you to the highly anticipated location, Leh Ladakh. At a distance of 213 km from Karzog, there are a number of ways to travel to Leh. Enjoy the final bit of the journey on the mountain roads to reach Leh. Spend the final day exploring Leh.

The journey from Leh takes you to Manali. And from Manali, you get to take on the final ride back home. From Leh, both Manali and Srinagar are at a close distance so you can choose either of the destinations or take a direct flight back to New Delhi.
