Considered as one of the easier treks in the sumptuous lands of Ladakh, the Sham Valley Trek delivers the trekkers with an unmatched experience of nature and culture. The itineraries are well planned for beginners who want to taste adventure and thrill in the least possible time. The whole journey has a total of 4 walking days taking the trekkers to a maximum elevation of just above 4000m.
The well-planned trail takes you through the artistic beauty of Ladakh in every way possible. The beautiful village of Hemis Sukpachan surrounded by the dense Cedar Trees looks highly appealing. The trail runs on the northern side of the road between Leh and Kargil finally stopping at Khaltse. The trekking expedition also constitutes a visit to the astounding Lamayuru Monastery.

Day 1: Arrival in Leh.
The trekker’s heaven and a traveler’s paradise, every corner in Leh is crafted out to deliver you an unparalleled experience each and every time. The Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is your destination if you chose not to indulge in a thrilling drive through the mountain roads. Also known as the ‘Little Tibet’, Leh is a fascinating destination to be in. The vivid landscapes surrounding the rich cultural spots of the region delivers a great experience every single time. As you arrive in Leh, you can spend the time visiting the beautiful monasteries of the region. The likes of Leh Palace, Shey Palace, Thiksey Monastery, Hemis Monastery among the others is all set to make your time in Leh a prosperous one. The artistic setting of the Shanti Stupa is must visit in Leh. You can also choose to stroll the streets and markets of Leh and spend an evening in leisure. The first night will be in a hotel in Leh.
Day 2: Local Sightseeing in Leh.
The second day of the journey is well planned to deliver you an incomparable experience as you will be spending the day visiting the most prominent spots in and around Leh. The day starts with the visit to the remarkable monasteries like the Hemis Monastery, Thiksey Monastery, and Spituk Monastery. At a distance of 15 KMs from Leh, the Shey Gompa is a beautiful place to visit. The 12 meter long Shakyamuni Buddha Statue in Shey Gompa looks really incredible. Another 45 KMs from Leh, the road takes you to one of the largest and the oldest monasteries in Leh, the Hemis Monastery. The long Mani Walls of the Hemis Monastery compliments the picturesque beauty of the surroundings. End the day by traveling back to your hotel in Leh to spend the night.
Day 3: Leh to Yangthang via Likir Village.
The 3rd day of the journey marks the beginning of the thrilling walk as you begin your walk from Likir Village. At a distance of just 58 KMs from Leh, the Likir Village is the starting point of the onward trekking journey. Enjoy the drive from Leh cutting through the striking brilliance of nature to reach the Likir Village. The walk begins from Likir Village towards the first notable stop, the Phobe La Pass at an altitude of 3,580 meters. Follow the trail heading west from Likir to cross the Phobe La Pass before experiencing an uphill trek all the up to the next pass, Chagatse La at 3, 630 meters. The final crossing of the Chagatse La leads you to the Yangthang Village. In Yangthang you can visit the Ridzong Monastery. Spend the night in the campsite lying next to the stream.
Day 4: Yangthang To Hemis Shukpachen Across Tsermangchen La.
The sumptuous journey is ideally planned to meet the craving for adventure and thrill for any trekker. The walk today of around 8 KMs to Hemis Sukpachen needs nothing more than 3 hours. Though the walk today takes you to Tsenmarchen La Pass at 3, 750 meters, the fairly easy ascent and descent make it an easy trail to walk on. Start the journey on the trail heading north to cross a stream and head west to reach the pass. Enjoy a leisure time enjoying the enchanting views and serene ambiance at the top of the pass before resuming on the final descent to the Hemis Sukpachen Village. One of the prettiest and beautiful villages of Ladakh, the Hemis Sukpachen is surrounded by dense Cedar Forestation. The sparkling streams and the large fields of barley shift the barren landscape of Ladakh to a greener one. Enjoy the night in the village.
Day 5: Hemis Shukpachen To Ang Across Mebtak La.
The journey today to Ang is around 10 km in total and today, yet again you will be crossing another pass at 3, 750 meters, the Meblak La Pass. The journey begins on the western side of the village on an easy trail traversing the path running in between two hills. The final steep climb to the Meblak La Pass is in the southern direction. The enthralling views of the surrounding and the beautiful and colorful prayer flags on top of the pass is a sight to savor. The final part of the walk is a descent down to a gorge, and finally leading to the Ang Village. The mesmerizing village is full of Apricot Orchards, spend a quaint night in the campsite.
Day 6: Ang To Temisgam and Nurla and back to Leh..
The week-long marvelous trekking expedition finally concludes as you will be traveling back to Leh today. Though the last day fills your heart with an uncertainty of leaving this place, but every good thing comes to an end at one point in time. The final day journey is a very easy walk downhill to Temisgam. Enjoy the walk and as you reach Temisgam, you will be taking a drive back to Leh. Arrive in Leh by evening and spend the remaining time of the final day exploring the beautiful streets of this amazing place. Final night in Leh.
Day 7: Final departure.
The final departure means you are bidding the final adieu to this bewildering place and start journeying towards your hometown. A lot of flights connect Delhi from Leh. You can also choose to experience more thrill by traveling on the road via Manali or Srinagar.
