Day 1: Drive to Aru Base Camp 7,958 ft (2,426 m)
from SrinagarKashmir is often called paradise on earth and as you reach Srinagar to start the journey, you will be amazed at the exciting place delivering beauty of nature at its very best. As you reach Srinagar, you can have a detour before starting with the journey to explore the most beautiful city in the Jammu & Kashmir region. The artifacts and Shikaras are the most amazing sights in Srinagar. The drive from Srinagar to Aru Basecamp has to be covered via Pahalgaon as a direct route is not ideal for a drive. It will take around 4 hours in total to reach Aru Base Camp, and the beautiful place is located across the Lidder River and looks really fascinating. Overnight in Aru Basecamp.
Day 2: Aru Base Camp 7,958 ft (2,426 m) to Lidderwat 9,131 ft (2,783 m)
The destination for the day is Lidderwat located 10km away from Aru Base Camp. The walk runs on a fairly easy trail and will take around 6 hours to complete. The walk begins along the Lidder River up to a small village that offers sumptuous views of the Aru Basecamp in the backdrop. The trail sinks into a beautiful fir forest and follows a gentle ascend from there to reach the divergence of two streams. It takes around an hour from here to reach Lidderwat and the road takes you through a wooden bridge followed by pine forests onto a fir forest. Enjoy the pleasant walk to reach the lush green valleys of the Lidderwat. Stay the night in Lidderwat.
Day 3 – Lidderwat 9,131 ft (2,783 m) to Shekwas 11,039 ft (3,365 m)
The distance to be covered is around 7 km and takes approximately 5 hours to reach the beautiful Shekwas. The trail today comprises a number of ascends and you will have to cross the Lidder river yet again on route. The fairly straight path leads you to a pine forest followed by a number of small streams. The trail from here takes you to the very old Silver birch forests or the Bhoji trees. The views are as compelling as you want it to be. Walk your way up to to the Shekwas. The undulating meadow of Shekwas is beautifully surrounded by dark snow-capped mountains and undoubtedly Shekwas offers one of the best views of the whole journey. Spend the night in Shekwas.
Day 4: Shekwas 11,039 ft (3,365 m) to Tarsar 12,449 ft (3,794 m)
Today you will be traveling to your primary destination Tarsar lake. The destination is around 5 km away and takes about 5 hours to complete. The trail begins on a snake-like path to reach Sumbal and from there you will be walking on a bridge over a stream. After a couple of hours, you will get the first glimpse of the incredible Tarsar lake from a conical hilltop. The walk from here is a really thrilling experience as you cross the stream on fastened rocks and boulders to reach the Tarsar grassland. The journey satisfies your hunger for adventure and the night in Tarsar lake will let you experience the magical beauty of nature. Enjoy the incredible views of the Tarsar lake in the nightfall and stay the night there.
Day 5: Tarsar 12,449 ft (3,794 m) to Sundaresar 12,946 ft (3,946 m)
The trail today takes you to the highest point of the journey at 13,497 feet and takes around 5 hours to complete. The trail begins with a steep climb to the Tarsar Pass followed a gradual descend and then again an easy ascend. Along the way, once you climb on to a ridge you will get to witness some astonishing views of the Marsar lake.Marsar is prohibited o camp and thus you will be traveling to Sundaresar to stay the night. Enjoy the beautiful lakeshore covered with flowers of the Sundaresar Lake. Stay the night in Sundaresar
Day 6: Sundaresar 12,946 ft (3,946 m) to Sonmasti 11,500 ft (3,505 m) via Marsar 13,201 ft (4,024 m).
The distance today is around 8 km and takes around 6 hours. The trail runs on a gradual ascent up to Marsar lake located 11,000feet and then descend back to Sonmasti to stay the night. The trail to Marsar lake leads you to a ridge from where you can witness the beauty of Marsar just 600 ft below. After enjoying the views retrace your steps back to Sundaresar.From Sundaresar the trail is only descending through snow patches so cautious approach is highly advised. Cross a number of streams that flow into the Sonamsti river, enjoy the serene walk for few hours to reach Sonmasti where you will be staying the night.
Day 7: Sumbal followed by drive to Srinagar
The final day of the journey comprises of a downhill trek to Sumbal and a drive from Sumbal to Srinagar, the final destination. The lengthy trek today drops down to 6,500 feet and takes a fairly long time so it is advised to start the day at the earliest. Crossing the Sonmasti river over the boulders is a fun experience you will be having on the first part of the journey. Follow the trail through small forests and vegetations as you cross a number of streams to finally reach the Sumbal village. The apple orchards, the popular and the willow trees are spread all over the village. From Sumbal enjoy the 4km drive to Srinagar marking the successful completion of the amazing journey. As you travel back to resume your daily chores, cherish the beautiful memories and plan the next trek to make more memories for yourself.
