In the north-central Himalayas of the Bagmati region, 51 kilometers north of Kathmandu, sits the pristine valley of Langtang. This region is home to tranquil scenery, characteristic settlements, and glacial lakes on the Himalayan foothills. The valley is a section of the national park known as Langtang, which eventually forms the border with Tibet. To reach the locations of your hike, you will be strolling inside the national park. A long-time favorite walk, the Langtang Valley is known for its wide-ranging views, fascinating Tamang culture, leisurely pace, and proximity to Kathmandu. The maximum elevation you will reach here is almost 5000 meters which can be slightly challenging for some. All in all, it isn’t a very difficult trek. Altitude sickness can occur often. The route gains altitude rather quickly, with several days having an elevation increase of more than 1000 meters. These days of elevation are exhausting, and the body must swiftly adapt. Therefore, it is recommended to have basic physical fitness before heading for the trek. The best time to opt for the Langtang Valley Trek is usually from March to May and from September to December. The accommodation choices here are usually tea houses, also known as guest houses. It is quite comfortable with good hosting and food.

    Langtang Valley Trek Itinerary

    Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu.

    Night Stay at: Kathmandu.
    Accommodation: Hotel.

    On day 1, we arrive in Kathmandu. You can opt to explore the place locally and visit exciting spots nearby. Kathmandu is a beautiful place in Nepal; therefore, you can spend the day exploring the city and visiting the world-famous cultural sites.

    Day 2: Head to Syabrubensi.

    Altitude of Syabrubensi: 1450 meters above sea level.
    Driving Duration: 8-9 hours.
    Night Stay at: Syabrubensi.
    Accommodation: Tea House.

    Today is when your real Langtang Valley Trek begins! You will board a bus provided by your guide and head to your destination. As you leave the city behind, the tour begins by driving along the northwest corner of Kathmandu and climbing high over the mountains.

    Here, you get to witness the majestic views of Annapurna I, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and many other peaks. There are also local villages, hillocks, and flowing rivers nearby. After several hours of driving, you reach the busy Trishuli Bazar, where you stop for lunch before continuing on the highway. You travel via Betrawati, Dunche, and then descend for an hour to get to Syabrubensi while viewing the scenes. This road originally served as a crucial commerce route that passed across Tibet to connect Nepal and China.

    Once you reach Syabrubensi, you will witness a memorable trek of your life! The air is refreshing, and the vibe is rejuvenating. It is indeed a splendid experience.

    Day 3: Syabrubensi to Lama Hotel.

    Walking Duration: 6-7 hours.
    Walking Distance: 10.9 kilometers.
    Night Stay at: Lama Hotel.
    Accommodation: Tea houses.

    On this day, you will start walking along the Langtang trails. After breakfast, you begin the hike by walking alongside the Bhote Koshi river, which originates in Tibet.

    You continue on the trail and stop at the Guru Rinpoche Gomba to pray for the journey. Then proceed to stroll along the Langtang Khola along the town’s stone-paved road. You continue walking a short distance before utilizing a suspension bridge to cross the Khola and begin the gradual climb to Bamboo. This stunning location has numerous guest cottages close to the river and is located in a canyon. Before continuing, you stop in Bamboo for lunch.

    Along your trail, you will be covered in forests that are home to a variety of flora. Oaks, maples, fir, blue pines, rhododendron, and massive spruce it is all a sight to behold! Apart from the exotic flora, you can get to witness the beautiful fauna, like the wild boars, red pandas, langurs, Himalayan black bears, and yellow-throated martens.

    Day 4: Trek to Langtang.

    Walking Distance: 14.8 kilometers.
    Night Stay at: Langtang Village.
    Accommodation: Tea house.

    Today you will trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang. It is quite impressive! You get up early, prepare your gear, eat breakfast, and then start climbing slowly and steeply as you ascend.

    You walk alongside the Langtang Khola as you travel through hemlock, oak, maple forests, and vibrant rhododendron. Additionally, a stunning view of snow-capped peaks, including Mt. Langtang, starts to come into view. By staying on the path, you can cross a Ghora Tabela pasture at the height of 2992 meters and come to a wood bridge. After eating your lunch, you gently begin a climb that leads to a glacier. Following that, you keep following the trails as they pass by yak pastures and a helipad before short ascending through rhododendron trees to reach the Tamang settlement.

    The hamlet of Langtang is then reached after crossing a stream on these trails. This lovely village features flat-roofed Tibetan-style homes with exquisitely carved wooden windows. The fields where turnips, potatoes, barley, etc. are farmed are enclosed by stone walls that encircle the entire town.

    Day 5: Kyanjin Gompa.

    Walking Duration: 5-6 hours.
    Walking Distance: 6.8 kilometers.
    Night Stay at: Kyanjin Gompa.
    Accommodation: Tea house.

    On day 5, you will move from Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa. You get up, eat breakfast, pack your luggage, and then resume your trip across the Langtang valley.

    The walk starts out by circling the Mani Walls before ascending a ridge that is crowned by a huge Buddhist shrine. After passing lovely prayer flags and crossing a stream, you then gradually rise till you reach Mundu at 3543 m. From this point on, you traverse numerous moraines and cross several tiny streams using wooden bridges. As you continue walking, you will see Kyanjin Gompa and the breathtaking icefall coming from Kimshug and Langtang Lirung peaks. The last location with tea houses is Kyanjin Gompa, which you reach after more trail walking. You are welcome to visit the stunning and well-known monastery while you are here.

    If you enjoy them, you should go here to try some of the yak curds that the area’s cheese factory produces. You may get a panoramic view of Dorje Lhakpa, Langshisha Ri, Ganja La, Tsergo Ri, and other mountains as you stroll around the settlement.

    Day 6: Hiking to Tsergo Ri and back to Kyanji Gompa.

    Walking Duration: 6-7 hours.
    Night Stay at: Kyanjin Gompa.
    Accommodation: Tea houses.

    Finally, you take advantage of your rest day by hiking up Tsergo Ri after continuously walking for so many days. The morning prayer will be held at the famous Kyanjin Gompa before you go hiking. This will give you the beautiful religious and cultural feel of Nepal.

    Following breakfast, you hike up to Tserko Ri, the highest point on the Langtang valley trek. With breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, the hike to this place is easy and exciting. In addition to the Langtang ranges, you can also see Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji, and other mountains from this point. Having spent some time here, you return to Kyanjin Gompa for lunch.

    Day 7: Trekking back to Rimche.

    Altitude of Rimche: 2450 meters above sea level.
    Walking Duration: 8-9 hours.
    Walking Distance: 21.6 kilometers.
    Night Stay at: Rimche.
    Accommodation: Tea house.

    You now make the walk down to Rimche after spending some enjoyable and adventurous time in Kyanjin Gompa. Compared to other days, this day’s trip is very lengthy. You first eat breakfast here while taking in the views of the snow-covered peaks before starting the expedition for today.

    You return to Langtang village by traveling along the Langtang Khola on the same trail. Following that, you continue traveling and make your way to Ghora Tabela, where you stop for lunch. Following that, you descend steeply to Lama Hotel and proceed a short way before arriving at Rimche. This tiny community, split into two halves, is located on the canyon’s north side. This village’s east paths link to Sherpagaon.

    Day 8: Trek to Syabrubensi.

    Walking Duration: 6-7 hours.
    Walking Distance: 10.9 kilometers.
    Night Stay at: Syabrubensi.
    Accommodation: Tea house.

    Without your knowledge, eight days have already passed, and your walk across the Langtang valley is rapidly nearing its conclusion. You traverse the paths back to Syabru Bensi today by foot. After a hurried breakfast, you start the hike by going back the same way. Today, most of the routes are downhill and take you through mysterious woodlands, giving you a chance to take in the breathtaking views of the lush hills and mountains.

    While traveling through various traditional villages that give you the chance to observe the customs and culture of the ethnic group, you ascend and descend the trails. You finally reach Syabrubensi after engaging in scenarios and hour-long walks. You can unwind and relish your final night here by going to the natural hot spring.

    Day 9: Drive Back to Kathmandu.

    Driving Duration: 7-8 hours.
    Night Stay at: Kathmandu.

    On day 9, you drive back to Kathmandu. You can either spend the day at the hotel or explore the local places that are known as prominent landmarks.

    Day 10: Departure.

    On day 10, your last day in Nepal, you finally depart from Kathmandu and catch a flight to your respective homes.
