Poonhill Trek is a fantastic journey to the north of Pokhara offering magnificence of the rising sun over the Annapurna Ranges. The setting of the villages that the trekkers encounter along the way is quite incredible as well. The serenity of the Annapurna region adds an extra pinch of tranquility and the fascinating trek passes through gushing rivers, colorful Rhododendrons, and beautiful Gurung Villages. Kathmandu -Pokhara – Nayapul – Ghorepani – Poonhill – Ghandruk – Pothana – Dhampus – Kathmandu is the destinations on the journey.

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu
Like every other trekking journey in heart of Nepal, the Poonhill trek also marks it’s beginning with your arrival in the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu. Rich in culture and heritage, Kathmandu has a lot to explore. From the beautiful monasteries spread all around the city to the incredible UNESCO World Heritage Sights, Kathmandu has all and is set amazingly amidst the vivid landscapes of tall distant mountains. Spend the day exploring the culture and traditions of the country, indulge in interactions with the locals and try the finest and most authentic Nepalese cuisine here in Kathmandu. Stay the night in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara.
The drive to Pokhara will take up around 6 hours in total from Kathmandu. Pokhara is also known as the ‘Lake City’ owing to the vast spread beautiful and serene lakes. Follow the trail through the terraced farmlands along the Marsyangdi river as you reach the Seti river. The trail from Seti leads to directly to the second largest city of Nepal, Pokhara. Admire the incredible views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri from Pokhara.
Day 3: Drive from Pokhara to Naya Pul and trek to Tikhedhunga (1,577 meters/5,173 feet).
Today you will begin your trekking journey to Tikhedhunga. To reach Tikhedunga you will need to enjoy a drive of about an hour to Naya Pul from Pokhara. You will reach the Nayapul through the Lumle village after a drive of about 45kms. Initiate the trekking from Naya Pul as the trail runs along the Modi river through Rhododendrons. You will need to cross a stream before finally reaching Tikhedhunga after walking for about 4 hours. Stay overnight in Tikhedhunga.
Day 4: Tikhedhunga (1,577 meters/5,173 feet) to Ghorepani (2,675 meters/8,776 feet)
The trek will begin with a steep trail to Ulleri. Follow the trail forward to cross the Banthanti village populated with Magars. The Banthanti village will offer you some compelling views of the Annapurna south, Hiunchuli Mountain, and Machapucchare mountain. Admire the beauty of nature and walk forward to cross a river and reach Nangethanti. From Nangethanti it is a short walk to Ghorepani. The village of Ghorepani will present you with exciting panoramic views of Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna south among many others. Spend the night in the lap of tall mountains in Ghorepani.
Day 5: Ghorepani (2,675 meters/8,776 feet) to Tadapani (2,675 meters/9,071 feet) via Poonhill (3,180 meters/10,433 feet)
You need to start the day very early to experience the beauty of the most amazing sunrise from Poonhill. It will take about an hour to reach the top of the Poonhill base camp to enjoy the first lights of the sun shining brightly over the whole Annapurna range, the Nilgiri Mountain, Tukuche, Lamjug Himal, Varaha Shikhar and many others. You will experience the most bewildering sunrise of your life from the top of Poonhill. After admiring the views from Poonhill, retrace the steps back to Ghorepani and start your journey towards Tadapani which will also offer exciting views of Annapurna south, Annapurna II, Fishtail and some other mountains as well. Spend the night in Tadapani.
Day 6: Tadapani (2,675 meters/9,071 feet) Ghandruk (1,950 meters/6,397 feet).
The trail to Ghandruk will take around 3 hours in total. Follow the trail through the Oak trees, Rhododendrons, and other Alpine flowers to reach the large Gurung village of Ghandruk. Enjoy the amazing views of the majestic ranges like Annapurna, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna and some others from Ghandruk. Stay the night among the welcoming locals in Ghandruk.
Day 7: Ghandruk (1,950 meters/6,397 feet) to Pothana (1,990 meters/6,528 feet).
The trail is around 6 hours to Pothana through the Kimbu at Modi Khola. Follow the trail to climb on stone steps to Landruk which follows up to Deurali. From Deurali walk along the amazing views of the mountains to cross Tolkha village and finally reach Pothana, stay overnight here.
Day 8: Pothana (1,990 meters/6,528 feet) to Dhampus Pedi and drive to Pokhara.
The journey back to Pokhara will have to complete through a trekking to Dhampus Phedi. Follow the trail along the gravel road for about an hour to reach Dhampus Phedi. From here you need to travel the rest on wheels to Pokhara.
Day 9: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu.
Enjoy the drive back to Kathmandu through the rural villages and farmlands as you move forward to conclude the journey. Spend the day in Kathmandu doing souvenir shopping and exploring the streets and marketplaces. Spend the last night in Kathmandu.
Day 10: Final Departure
The day has finally arrived when you are traveling back to your hometown to resume the daily life. The sun will never look the same again in the mornings after the most amazing sunrise you have experienced.
